Staff Forester

Your Tasks

  • Manage forestry consulting projects, including THP/timber sale preparation and administration, timber inventories, appraisals, rural development projects, grant/cost-share projects, and vegetation/fuels reduction work.

  • Act as the Registered Professional Forester (RPF) of record and support responsible land management, sustainable resource use, and regulatory compliance.

  • Prepare, track, and administer project budgets, schedules, resource allocation, technical documentation, reports, maps, and quality control.

  • Provide professional oversight of contractors performing tree planting, herbicide application, fuel reduction, timber harvesting, road work, and watercourse crossing restoration projects.

  • Support carbon inventory and analysis for forest carbon verification projects under ARB Compliance Offset Protocols and other voluntary protocols.

  • Build and maintain working relationships with clients, agencies, contractors, partners, and stakeholders.

  • Mentor and train supervised designees, associate foresters, seasonal employees, and other team members.

  • Be able and willing to travel, including to remote project locations. Travel may include overnight stays and camping.

  • Follow any other instructions and perform any other related duties as may be required.

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or a closely related field.

  • Active California Registered Professional Forester license required.

  • Valid driver’s license and clear driving record required.

  • Working knowledge of California Forest Practice Rules, harvesting design principles, road layout, timber cruising, forest management practices, and regulatory compliance.

  • Proficiency with forestry field equipment, GPS, Microsoft Office, and ArcGIS or related GIS mapping tools.

  • Strong project management, organizational, leadership, communication, and technical writing skills.

  • Ability to work independently in field environments, manage multiple complex projects, meet deadlines, and deliver accurate, high-quality work.

  • Ability to mentor others, work collaboratively, and represent the company professionally with clients, agencies, contractors, and internal teams.

Additional Information

  • The anticipated annual base pay range for this full-time position is $85,000 – $120,000.

  • Actual base pay will be determined based on various factors, including years of relevant experience, training, qualifications, and internal equity.

  • The compensation package may also include an annual bonus target, subject to eligibility and other requirements.

  • Travel: Required, including remote project locations. Extended travel may include overnight stays and camping.

  • This role may require walking, hiking, or standing for extended periods in steep, rugged, and/or remote terrain under adverse weather conditions.

  • The position may involve exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, smoke, dust, pollen, wildlife, insects, pesticides, and active forestry or logging operations.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
