Job Purpose

The Instrumentation Commissioning Supervisor will be responsible for supervising and coordinating instrumentation and automation commissioning activities at project sites. The role involves supervising Instrumentation Commissioning Technicians during functional testing, loop checking, troubleshooting, system commissioning and operational readiness of instrumentation, PLC/DCS/ICS/HMI and associated control systems, in accordance with approved project procedures, technical specifications and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise Instrumentation Commissioning Technicians in carrying out functional testing and commissioning of project instrumentation systems in accordance with approved project procedures.
• Supervise commissioning activities for ICS, PLC, DCS, HMI and field instruments/control systems.
• Carry out and supervise functional loop checks, instrument testing and system verification.
• Perform troubleshooting and identify instrumentation, control system and communication-related issues during commissioning.
• Read, interpret and work with OEM manuals, technical specifications, instrumentation drawings, control drawings, P&IDs and other engineering documents.
• Review plant schematics, P&IDs and control drawings, including standalone systems, from an Operations & Maintenance perspective.
• Ensure instruments and control systems are correctly installed, configured, tested and commissioned.
• Verify instrument functionality and operating parameters and support the team in minimizing installation and operational errors.
• Work with Operations during commissioning and assist in operating plant equipment in Auto, Semi-Auto, Manual and Local modes.
• Coordinate with the Electrical team for the operation and configuration of VFDs and soft starters.
• Support troubleshooting and commissioning of communication networks and protocols.
• Coordinate with contractors, vendors, commissioning teams, Operations, Electrical and other project disciplines to resolve site issues.
• Review commissioning documentation and ensure activities are completed as per approved procedures and project requirements.
• Support DCS FAT and SAT coordination, including preparation, testing and closure of observations.
• Participate in system and subsystem scoping for Automation / DCS systems.
• Prepare and execute system testing and commissioning procedures.
• Carry out or supervise functional testing of automation systems.
• Review and update IFC drawings / Redline drawings based on actual site conditions and approved changes.
• Maintain proper commissioning records, test reports, punch points and technical documentation.
• Ensure all commissioning activities are carried out in accordance with applicable HSE requirements, project standards and work procedures.

Education & Qualification

• Diploma / Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electronics & Instrumentation, Electronics Engineering, Control & Instrumentation or a related discipline.
• Relevant technical certification in instrumentation/automation will be an added advantage.

Experience

• Relevant experience in Instrumentation / Automation Commissioning, preferably in Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Refinery, Process Plant, Energy or similar industrial projects.
• Experience in supervising instrumentation technicians and coordinating commissioning activities at project sites.
• Hands-on experience with PLC/DCS/ICS/HMI, field instruments, control systems and industrial communication protocols.
• Experience in plant commissioning, loop checking, troubleshooting and system testing is preferred.
