Job Purpose
- The Senior Lift Inspector acts as a leading technical expert responsible for inspecting to ensure the safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance of elevators, escalators, and moving walkways.
- This role leads third-party periodic inspections, witnesses testing for new installations or modernizations, and provides technical mentorship to junior inspection engineers.
- Representing TÜV SÜD’s heritage of safety and trust, the Senior Inspector bridges traditional hands-on safety examinations with modern, data-driven digital inspection tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Inspections & Safety Compliance
- Advanced Code Inspections:
Performs rigorous statutory and periodic physical inspections of electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical lift systems to ensure compliance with local regulations and international standards (e.g., EN 81 / ISO 8100 series, ASME A17.1).
- Safety & Function Testing:
Witnesses and verifies crucial safety tests, including over-speed governors, emergency braking systems, and buffer clearances.
- Design & Structural Reviews:
Conducts design drawing reviews, circuit diagram analyses, and work completion verifications for modernizations and new installations.
- Modern Technology Evaluation:
Utilizes and evaluates digital solutions like the ADIAS system.
- Audit-Ready Reports:
Prepares accurate, legally binding inspection reports, conditional assessments, and compliance certificates in strict accordance with ISO/IEC 17020 quality management standards.
- Accreditation Support:
Maintains highly robust technical documentation required to support internal and external local accreditation audits.
- Process Improvement
- Identify gaps in inspection practices and recommend corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Support development and revision of checklists, procedures, and technical guidelines.
- Drive standardization of inspection and reporting practices across regions.
- Support with innovative ideas for process enhancement and continuous improvement for LCC South Asia.
- Develops methods for inspection, testing, reporting, and training. Evaluates inspection methods and recommends improvements.
- Leadership & Client Relations
- Team Mentorship:
In the future, supervises, guides, and technically vets the reports and certificates generated by junior lift inspectors and technicians.
- Subject Matter Expertise:
Provides technical advice to building owners, facility managers, and contractors regarding required repairs, upgrades, or complex safety code deviations.
- Accident Investigation:
Acts as an independent technical expert to investigate lift-related malfunctions, complaints, or accidents when required.
- Qualifications & Experience
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering (or equivalent technical diploma with extensive industry experience).
- Experience:
5 to 10+ years of hands-on experience in lift installation, maintenance, testing, quality inspection or third-party inspection (prior experience with a Notified Body or independent inspection agency is highly desired).
- Certifications:
Valid local license/registration as a Certified Lift Inspector or Lift Authorized/Competent Person will be an added advantage
- Standards Expertise:
Deep, operational knowledge of localized elevator codes, the European Lifts Directive, ISO 8100, and functional safety standards such as PESSRAL.
- Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of lift & escalator safety systems and components.
- Understanding the Quality Management systems - risk assessment, non‑conformity management, and audit processes.
- Ability to interpret drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
