Job Purpose:
To lead and execute high-level GHG (Greenhouse Gas) audits within the forestry and agriculture sectors in accordance with international standards such as the ISO 14064 series, the GHG Protocol, and relevant voluntary carbon market methodologies (e.g., Verra VCS, Gold Standard). The role involves overseeing verification processes, providing technical guidance, and contributing to the development of climate mitigation strategies for clients and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership & Auditing
- Plan, manage, and lead complex GHG audits and verifications for forestry and agriculture projects (e.g., NBS, ARR, REDD+, ALM, improved forest management, regenerative agriculture, Mangrove, Livestock and Manure).
- Review and validate carbon stock assessments, baseline scenarios, monitoring reports, and emissions reduction calculations.
- Ensure alignment with relevant international standards, including ISO 14064, IPCC guidelines, and project-level methodologies under Verra, Gold Standard, and other registries.
- Lead risk assessments and determine audit scopes based on project complexity and potential material misstatements.
Sectoral Expertise
- Serve as the organization’s subject matter expert on land use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF), and agriculture, forestry, and other land use (AFOLU).
- Provide expert reviews of soil carbon, biomass estimation, remote sensing/GIS data, and modeling tools used in MRV (Monitoring, Reporting & Verification).
- Keep up to date with scientific developments and policy trends in forestry/agriculture GHG accounting and carbon markets.
Stakeholder Engagement & Capacity Building
- Engage with project developers, clients, verifiers, and certification bodies to communicate audit findings and assessment.
- Lead or contribute to capacity-building programs for junior auditors, project teams, and partners.
- Represent the organization in external forums, working groups, or conferences on forestry and agriculture GHG emissions.
Strategic Input & Quality Assurance
- Contribute to the development and updating of internal procedures, audit protocols, and knowledge systems for LULUCF/AFOLU sectors.
- Support business development by providing technical input and through client engagements.
- Lead internal peer reviews and contribute to quality assurance processes to maintain accreditation and improve technical rigor.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Master’s degree in Forestry, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Climate Science, or related field.
- At least 8 years of relevant experience, including min 3 years in GHG accounting and auditing.
- Demonstrated experience conducting audits under ISO 14064, Verra VCS, CDM, or similar schemes.
- Strong knowledge of carbon quantification methods, GIS, remote sensing, and biomass/carbon modeling tools.
- Proven leadership in managing multidisciplinary teams and large-scale audit programs.
- Experience influencing high-level stakeholders and strategic decision-making on climate initiatives.
Skills & Competencies:
- Expert knowledge of MRV systems in land-based sectors.
- An analytical mindset with attention to detail and high professional integrity.
- Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
- Proficient in tools such as ArcGIS/QGIS, Excel-based calculators, carbon modeling software (e.g., CO2FIX, COMET-Farm), and/or remote sensing platforms.
- Ability to work independently and in multicultural, cross-functional teams.
Professional Certifications (Preferred):
- Lead GHG Verifier Certification (ISO 14064 or similar)
