Product Safety Engineer

Your Tasks

As a Senior Safety Engineer, Energy Systems & Electrification, you will support customers in achieving compliance with national and international product safety requirements. You will lead technical evaluations, perform product assessments, and serve as a key technical resource for projects involving electric vehicle charging systems, batteries, energy storage systems, and other emerging electrification technologies.

  • Define project scope, technical requirements, test plans, schedules, and resource requirements based on customer needs and applicable standards.

  • Conduct and oversee product assessments, component evaluations, and safety testing activities at TÜV SÜD facilities and customer locations.

  • Evaluate products against applicable standards, including EN/IEC/UL 62368, 61010, 60335, and related safety requirements.

  • Perform technical file reviews and assess engineering documentation, manufacturing processes, and product construction for compliance.

  • Prepare accurate technical reports, certification documentation, and customer communications.

  • Serve as the primary technical liaison between customers and internal operations teams throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Lead customer meetings to discuss project status, technical findings, corrective actions, and compliance requirements.

  • Support the development of new testing methodologies, technical capabilities, and service offerings in response to evolving industry needs.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams and technical experts to resolve complex compliance and certification challenges.

Your Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience performing electrical product safety testing within an accredited laboratory or testing environment.

  • Strong knowledge of national and international electrical safety standards and certification requirements.

  • Experience performing product evaluations, technical assessments, and compliance reviews.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with customers and technical teams.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting electric vehicle charging systems, battery technologies, energy storage systems, or electrification products.

  • Familiarity with standards committees, regulatory organizations, and evolving industry requirements.

  • Experience managing technical projects and coordinating customer-facing activities.

  • Knowledge of certification programs and global market access requirements.

  • Experience developing new testing methods or laboratory capabilities.

  • Experience working within ISO/IEC 17025 accredited environments.

Travel Requirements: Occasional travel may be required to customer locations and TÜV SÜD facilities to support testing, assessments, and project activities.

Compensation & Benefits

The anticipated annual base pay range for this full-time position is $75,000 - $90,000. Actual base pay will be determined based on various factors, including years of relevant experience, training, qualifications, geographic location, market conditions, and internal equity.

The compensation package may also include an annual incentive opportunity, subject to eligibility and applicable plan terms.

Additionally, we offer a comprehensive benefits package to employees, including a 401(k) plan with employer match, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave for birthing parents and 2 weeks for other parents, health plans (medical, dental, and vision), life insurance and disability coverage, employee assistance programs, and generous paid time off.

Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates.

This position may require the ability to occasionally lift or move equipment weighing up to 75 pounds and work within laboratory environments supporting product testing and evaluation activities.
