Job Description (JD) – Solar Module Inspection Engineer

Position: Solar Module Inspection Engineer
Experience: 4–6 Years
Education: Degree or Diploma in Electrical, Electronics, Renewable Energy, Mechanical, Energy Engineering, or related Engineering discipline

Role Summary

Responsible for inspection, assessment, testing, and reporting of solar photovoltaic (PV) modules and associated system components to ensure asset reliability, performance, safety, and optimal energy generation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct solar module inspections, including visual, electrical, thermal, and structural assessments.
  • Perform module inspections using infrared thermography, electroluminescence (EL) testing, IV curve tracing, drones, and visual inspection techniques.
  • Identify defects such as:
    • Cracked cells
    • Hotspots
    • Delamination
    • Snail trails
    • PID (Potential Induced Degradation)
    • Micro-cracks
    • Glass breakage
    • Junction box failures
    • Connector and cable defects
  • Analyze module performance and identify underperforming strings, arrays, and equipment.
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports with findings, root cause analysis, risk assessment, and corrective action recommendations.
  • Monitor solar asset health and support preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Ensure compliance with OEM guidelines, IEC standards, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Coordinate with O&M, asset management, engineering, and repair teams to implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain inspection records, test results, performance data, and documentation.
  • Support performance improvement initiatives to maximize plant availability and energy yield.

Requirements

  • 5–7 years of experience in solar PV module inspection, testing, and performance assessment.
  • Strong knowledge of solar PV systems, module technologies, inverters, DC systems, and balance-of-system components.
  • Experience with:
    • Thermal imaging inspections
    • EL testing
    • IV curve tracing
    • Drone-based inspections
    • Performance ratio analysis
  • Ability to identify module degradation mechanisms and reliability issues.
  • Good understanding of solar plant operation, maintenance, and fault diagnostics.
  • Experience in inspection reporting, condition assessment, and technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with electrical safety standards and site HSE requirements.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
