Sustainability & ESG Reporting Intern
  1.  Position Summary

The role of the Sustainability & ESG Reporting Intern is to support the delivery of high-quality ESG data services that align with the long-term goals of our clients, our firm, and the communities we serve. As a valued member of SIG’s ESG Reporting Team, the intern will assist in gathering, organizing, and validating sustainability data that supports key reporting and performance initiatives across the commercial real estate sector. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, eager to learn, and enthusiastic about contributing to meaningful ESG outcomes through accurate data work and professional development.

 

  1. Responsibilities

ESG Data Collection & Quality Assurance

  • Assist in collecting, organizing, and validating ESG-related data—including energy, water, waste, and emissions—from client portfolios.
  • Support internal data assurance efforts to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with relevant reporting standards.
  • Maintain organized and complete documentation for all data and source materials using SIG’s internal systems.
  • Track and log work hours by project to support internal time management and reporting systems.

ESG Reporting & Framework Support

  • Contribute to the preparation and submission of ESG reports across multiple frameworks, including GRESB, CDP, GRI, and others.
  • Support the scoring of reporting frameworks by aligning data, narratives, and evidence to each framework’s criteria.
  • Gather supporting documentation (e.g., policies, audits, certifications) and ensure completeness and quality.
  • Assist in drafting ESG narratives that clearly communicate client achievements, goals, and performance metrics.
  • Help maintain and update client policies and reporting templates to reflect current ESG best practices and standards.
  • Research emerging ESG trends and evolving reporting requirements to support internal knowledge and client readiness.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with SIG’s ESG team to clarify expectations, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Participate in team meetings and reporting check-ins to stay aligned on project progress and needs.
  • Request and apply feedback on assigned tasks to improve quality and build relevant skills.

Learning & Professional Development

  • Gain hands-on experience with leading ESG reporting frameworks and sustainability data systems.
  • Participate in a mid-internship performance check-in to support goal-setting and growth.
  • Access credential resources as part of SIG’s professional development program.

  1. Education and Experience

Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s degree (B.S. or B.A.) in a related field such as Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, Business, Architecture, or Data Analytics. Prior internship, academic, or project experience related to ESG, sustainability, or data analysis is preferred but not required. A strong interest in ESG reporting frameworks (e.g., GRESB, CDP, SASB, GRI) is highly encouraged.

Technical /Business Unit Related Skills & Knowledge: The technical skills and knowledge that are important for a specific role that enable an employee to fulfil the technical and business needs of their role.   • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly in managing datasets and documentation.
  • Clear and professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, meet deadlines, and adapt to evolving project priorities.
  • Demonstrated interest in sustainability, ESG, or corporate responsibility.
  • Willingness to learn new technical concepts, ask questions, and receive feedback constructively.
  • Academic or project experience related to sustainability, environmental science, or ESG reporting.
  • Basic data analysis skills or experience (e.g., using Excel formulas, charts, or pivot tables).
